"Havana" derives it's name and musical influences from the capital of Cuba and it's Latin Caribbean music, where in the 50's and 60's the African and Spanish influences created the rhythms: Cha-Cha, Rhumba, Mambo and Salsa. A step away from Cuba is Jamaica and the Caribbean Islands, where the popular rhythms Calypso, Soca, Reggae and Zouk originated. Zouk and Soca are modern Caribbean rhythms which are very popular with the younger audience members (Angelique Kidjo has been known to use these rhythms). Havana uses these rhythms for the Limbo dance and numbers which were performed by Harry Belafonte in the 50's. A plane trip away is the continent of South America where the rhythms of the Brazilian Samba, Lambada and the Bossa-Nova originated. Havana adds a hint of spice to each bracket with these "Madi Gras" rhythms. Columbia offers the rhythms of the Cumbia and Merengue. The Merengue is often used for the Conga line. Followed by Argentina with it's Classical Tango. Using these rhythms Havana creates the Carnival Party atmosphere they are renowned for. Next you'll find yourself across the Atlantic Ocean in Spain dancing to the Macarena, in Greece dancing Zorba or just about any Mediterranean or European country you would care to visit. If you start to feel home sick for that good old fashioned Rock'n'Roll, it has been rumoured that Havana have, on the odd occasion performed a standard or two. Chuck Berry, "The King" or even The Beach Boys will bring you thundering home. Havana was formed professionally by Dimi Prineas in 1988. Dimi uses selected session musicians to create a special mix for each individual performance. Guitar, Keyboards, Latin Percussions, Saxophone, Trumpet and Vocals are all Key instruments in Havana. Over the years Havana has established a large following and a highly prestigious list of clients. As Arranger and Composer, Dimi has moved Havana with the times, keeping abreast of new trends, but the old ones are never forgotten. In his arrangements he has modernised the styles fusing old and new to create an exciting and unique groove for one and all. Havana has recently released a compilation CD featuring many of their "Crowd Pleaser" songs. It has been a great success in Queensland and New South Wales. Distributors in Europe are also experiencing success. This CD is the quintessential Havana. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
